Lundberg family to match up to $100,000 to expand veterans center

Three well-known local businessmen on the eve of Veterans Day announced that they will match dollar-for-dollar up to $100,000 to the Richard I Bong Veterans Historical Center over the next 100 Days of the Capital Campaign’s drive. The goal is to raise awareness and funds for the newly-expanded mission.
The fundraising to match the Lundberg Family challenge is being led by Judy Weber, chief executive officer of Inter City Oil and resident of Superior, and John Bremer of Clermont, Florida, a retired Viet Nam high-ranking officer and Lockheed engineer.
Members of the Lundberg family including Bob and sons Scott and Terry have been active supporters of the state of the art hangar museum in Superior overlooking the greatest of great lakes on East 2nd Street next to Perkins since its inception and believe strongly in community.
“We are proud of our veterans’ service to country and the many sacrifices made by their families,” said Terry Lundberg, who along with his dad and brother made the announcement at the Bong annual dinner Thursday night. The many men and women who have served deserve our gratitude, warrant our praise and not just one day of the year.”
The Bong built in memory of its namesake who was an ace World War II pilot from nearby Poplar — where these men have operated just a few of their businesses, has expanded its mission to honor all veterans — including those who served in every branch, all conflicts since World War II including Korea, Viet Nam, the Gulf War, Dessert Storm to those serving today in Afghanistan and Iraq.
Names of military personnel who served from throughout the region and this nation, along with artifacts are now being sought as museum officials and supporters plan new wings of interactive displays and walls of honor to pay tribute to all that have served.
