Defenseman Meirs Moore’s first period goal stood up as Duluth East defeated Minnetonka 4-0 in a Bantam A hockey game featuring state-ranked teams Saturday at the DECC.
Alex Toscano, Mathew Klassen and Jack Forbort also scored for the Hounds (6-3).
“It was a good win against Minnetonka, against a team we will see again somewhere down the road,” said Moore (pictured).
Duluth East Coach Steve Pitoscia said the Hounds played their best game of the season against the Skippers.
“Our defensive zone play is improving and that was quite noticeable in the third period when they came out flying all over the rink, but never really threatened,” said Pitoscia. “Our guys are starting to feel comfortable with their jobs and we’re not seeing the panic in the defensive zone like we have in some of our previous games.
“We supported the puck on the breakout and in the neutral zone very well, and our first power play unit started to show some signs of life. The guys really looked like they are picking up the things we’ve been teaching them.”
Duluth East will face Hermantown on tonight and will play in the Tommy Williams Invitational Friday through Sunday in Duluth.
