Hockey Notes: Bantam A tourney in Duluth, Mirage open Saturday, prep boys begin Monday

Duluth East will face White Bear Lake at 4 p.m. today in the 7th annual Tommy Williams Invitational Bantam A tournament at Heritage Arena.
Eight teams will participate in one of the Minnesota’s most prestigious youth hockey tournaments, which runs Friday through Sunday at Heritage Arena and Fryberger Arena in Duluth. Alex Toscano (pictured) of Duluth East is one of the elite players in the tournament. Below are the pairings and results:
Red Division
Duluth East, White Bear Lake, Eden Prairie, Wayzata
Grey Division
Cloquet, Centennial, Minnetonka, Moorhead
Friday (First Round)
4 p.m. — Duluth East vs. White Bear Lake (Heritage Arena)
4 p.m. — Cloquet vs. Centennial (Fryberger Arena)
6 p.m. — Minnetonka vs. Moorhead (Fryberger Arena)
6 p.m. — Eden Prairie vs. Wayzata (Heritage Arena)
Saturday (Second Round)
9 a.m. — Duluth East vs. Eden Prairie (Fryberger Arena)
9 a.m. — Cloquet vs. Minnetonka (Heritage Arena)
11 a.m. — Centennial vs. Moorhead (Pavilion Arena)

The Proctor-Hermantown-Marshall Mirage high school girls hockey team will open the 2009-10 season against Forest Lake on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. at Mars Lakeview Arena in Duluth.
The Mirage lost to Cloquet in the Section 7AA championship game last season. Glen Gilderman coaches the Mirage.

Minnesota high school boys hockey teams begin official preseason workouts Monday. The Lake Superior Conference Jamboree will be held Monday, Nov. 23 at Heritage Arena. A dedication of the new entry plaza at the Duluth Heritage Sports Center will be held Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. In celebration of its 25th Anniversary, the Duluth Harbortown Rotary Club has partnered with the Duluth Heritage Sports Center to complete the $200,000 plaza. Read more.
