Hermantown Community Fund accepting grant applications

The Hermantown Community Fund, an affiliate fund of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation, is accepting grant applications through September 1, 2008. Applicants interested in applying should first submit an inquiry via the Web site at: dsacommunityfoundation.com.

Grant awards are made in the areas of the arts, community and economic development, education, environment and human services. Non-profit organizations that are located in or provide services to residents of the Hermantown community are eligible to apply. The Hermantown Community Fund, established in 2005, was created by area residents to build permanent endowed funds to meet the charitable needs of the Hermantown area. The Hermantown Community Fund family of funds includes: Hermantown Community Fund, Hermantown Community Grantmaking Temporary Fund, Hermantown Community Operating Fund and Jackson Club Scholarship Fund.

The Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation encourages private giving for the public good. The Community Foundation is a permanent community endowment, built by gifts from hundreds of individuals and organizations and currently has total assets of more than $50 million. Guided by a 13-member Board of volunteer civic leaders, the Community Foundation makes grants to nonprofit organizations and to individuals for scholarships and provides leadership on important community initiatives in our area. Since our inception in 1983, we have distributed over $29 million and currently manage over 270 different funds, each with its own charitable purpose.

Regional affiliates of the Duluth Superior Area Community Foundation include the Two Harbors Area Fund (created in 1998), the Apostle Islands Area Community Fund (created in 2000), the Cook County Community Fund (created in 2003), and the Hermantown Community Fund (created in 2005).
