Janet B. Davis Miller-Dwan Foundation Outstanding Volunteer Award launched

With the help of the Miller-Dwan Foundation and the children and grandchildren of the Janet B. Davis, the Miller-Dwan Medical Center Auxiliary added a new annual award to their collection of volunteer honors.

The Janet B. Davis Outstanding Volunteer Award honors Jan’s 40 years of Miller-Dwan volunteer work and also recognizes a special volunteer.

Jan joined the Miller Memorial Hospital some 40 years ago as a Red Cross Gray Lady, Since that time, she has been a Miller-Dwan switchboard operator, the first female Rotarian president in Duluth, President of the Miller-Dwan Medical Center Auxiliary…twice, a member of the board of Miller-Dwan Medical Center, and Board Chair of the Miller-Dwan Foundation.

As an auxilian, Jan now works in the Miller-Dwan Medical Center gift shop, and twice per year, she takes on the enormous job of Miller-Dwan Book Sale Coordinator. (All book sale proceeds go toward college scholarships for students.) Her boundless energy touches many lives.

Beautifully crafted by local artist, Alberta Marana, The Janet B. Davis Volunteer Award hangs, brightly lit, just outside the Miller-Dwan Medical Center cafeteria where Jan once volunteered. It reads:

Janet B. Davis Outstanding Volunteer Award
In honor of Janet B. Davis for her selfless spirit of volunteering, deep commitment to this hospital and her full spectrum of communal leadership in service to the city of Duluth.

In every community there is work to be done. Within everyone’s heart, there is the power to do it.
