Deadline for gas service applications is Friday

After Friday, September 19, the City of Duluth will no longer accept new applications for natural gas service for the remainder of 2008. This temporary moratorium will last until frost leaves the ground next spring.

The Department of Public Works and Utilities has received three times the normal amount of requests for service this fall, with over 350 applications already received. Chief Engineer of Utilities Eric Shaffer says crews will need the time between Friday and the time when frost goes into the ground to handle existing requests.

Applications for gas service after September 19 may be accepted if property owners making a request provide all trench excavation and backfilling at no cost to the City. New applications for a verified failed existing heating unit will still be accepted; however the owner must provide all trench excavation and backfilling at no cost to the City.
