It all started out with the enrollment process. When I had questions about it they were very helpful in telling me what I needed to include in the form.
It takes a little time getting used to doing schooling at home, but I never had to worry because I knew if I wasn’t sure what to do that my teachers would help me. The school provided me with everything I needed to get started including books, a laptop, and a printer with a scanner and fax all in one to use until I graduate. All I needed was an internet connection.
The school is through Houston Minnesota’s so it follows their calendar and the cool thing is they have students from all over Minnesota and the teachers are too. There are also elementary and middle school students through the school.
The teachers are so caring and supportive. They work with students one on one if they are behind or if they are confused on an assignment. They have never judged me or favored any student over another. The most important thing to me is that they have never given up on me if I have felt overwhelmed or any other problems. They even have a 24 hour tech support number which I had to call a couple times when my computer wouldn’t log into the school and when I needed help submitting an assignment but they were really quick and got it fixed right away.
I was really happy to find out how flexible this school was. I didn’t have to sit bored at school for the rest of the day when I finished my work. Also I only had to work until I finished my work and have the rest of the day to do what I want. Not only did I have the option to work during the day now I could do my home work at night at my own pace. If I had something going on two days out of the week I could make up that work during the weekend or do it ahead of time. There have been many students in my classes who wanted more time for sports which they now have with this school and others have moved alot or gone on vacations all the time and are happy because they can take their work with them. It’s just like a regular school except my schedule is up to me.
The school is always planning social outings through out the state. I was lucky because I got to attend their first prom. I have also gone to two adventure zone outings in Duluth and the Winterland of Gingerbread which was a gingerbread house building contest and a skating event. It was special because I was one of the winners. The school planned another one in Minneapolis on the same day and time.
Honestly, this has been nothing but a positive experience for me and I can’t wait to graduate.
