Additional I-35 ramps at Lake Avenue to close starting Monday

Due to a concrete resurfacing project, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is set to modify traffic control on I-35 and at Lake Avenue in Duluth. Beginning Monday, July 29, the specified ramps leading to and from I-35 will be closed:

  • I-35 northbound off-ramp to Lake Avenue bridge
  • I-35 southbound off-ramp to Lake Avenue bridge
  • I-35 southbound on-ramp from Lake Avenue bridge
  • I-35 northbound on-ramp from Lake Avenue bridge
  • I-35 northbound on-ramp from Michigan Street

Furthermore, the southbound exit 256B for Lake Avenue/5th Avenue West on I-35 will be completely closed during the week of July 29 to facilitate concrete repairs on the 5th Avenue West portion of the exit.

Lanes will continue to be closed on I-35 northbound and southbound between 5th Avenue West and 13th Avenue East (north termini of tunnels).

These closures have been accelerated and need to be completed concurrently due to additional concrete work needing to be completed as a part of the planned construction project. Ramps are expected to reopen by September 7 and will open sooner if possible. Detour signage will be posted.

This project is part of a two-year project with concrete pavement repairs and bridge work in the Duluth section of I-35.

Howie: The verdict on Reinert will be about direction, not personality

The question is no longer simply whether Roger Reinert deserves another term. The question is whether Duluth believes it is on the path it wants — and if not, who has the discipline, clarity and courage to alter it. November 2027 will deliver the verdict. The work of deciding it begins now.

Essentia’s downtown campus functions as a Level I trauma center — the highest designation available — meaning it must have surgeons, anesthesiologists, neurosurgeons and critical care specialists available at all hours. Not on call from home. Available.
