Curley, Gurske win Minnesota Mile

DULUTH — John Curley and Amber Gurske won the men’s and women’s titles Friday night at the 20th Minnesota Mile, while the Duluth event set a record with 677 finishers at Enger Park.

Curley, 33, of Duluth, won the men’s race in 4 minutes, 30 seconds, finishing four seconds ahead of runner-up Daniel Zoltek.

It was Curley’s second Minnesota Mile championship. He also won in 2020 and became the fourth man in event history to win multiple titles.

Gurske, 35, of Duluth, won the women’s division in 5:49, six seconds ahead of runner-up Sarah Mounts.

The victory was the first Minnesota Mile title for Gurske, who finished second in 2025 by two seconds.

Lyndsey Shepard, 35, of Solon Springs, Wisconsin, won the nonbinary division in 6:57, setting an event record in the division.

The event drew a record 677 finishers, including 294 men, 379 women and four nonbinary competitors. The previous record was 650 finishers in 2019.

A record 821 runners registered for this year’s event, including 369 participants age 18 or younger.

Thunderstorms had been a concern in the days leading up to the race, but conditions cooperated for the event.
