Dec. 31 – Glamour & Gold: A Great Gatsby New Year’s Eve, 6 p.m. Harbor Side Convention Center

When Amber Brostrom was a little girl, she’d watch local live TV on New Year’s Eve. She tuned in to the fancy New Year’s Eve party sponsored by St. Mary’s, hosted by news anchor Barbara Reyelts, and held at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center.

“I couldn't wait to be old enough to attend. Well, once I was of age, they (St. Mary's) stopped hosting the event. I was so bummed. There really hasn't been a BIG NYE event since,” said Brostrom.

So, she created her own.

What to Expect at Glamour & Gold: Doors to the Harbor Side Center open at 6:00 PM to usher in the VIP Guests. While enjoying cocktails and light appetizers, they’ll be the first to take in the opulent feather and pearl décor and the floor-to-ceiling windows framing the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge.

Then it’s off to dance lessons with the pros from Northshore Ballroom, laughs in the Selfie Booth and a peek at what 2024 has in store with the professional tarot card reader.

The VIP 1920s – feast arrives at 7:00 PM. It features a crisp Waldorf salad with a refreshing medley of apples, celery, and walnuts. The main course consists of a bourbon glazed Ham or roasted chicken with sides of asparagus and piped Boursin mashed potatoes.

At 8:00 PM, the doors open once again for the arrival of more revelers and the dealing starts at the games tables from Sounds Unlimited! All the other activities continue with the addition of the Underground Vikre & Bent Paddle Speakeasy (password necessary). Be warned, authorities are in the area and may shut down the operation.

The Silent Auction, benefiting the Ronald McDonald House Charities, will close at 10 PM and prizes from Sounds Unlimited games drawing will be announced. The “Prohibition Drink Stock Up” (aka last call) will be at 11:45 as the champagne toast for the New Year will be handled for the countdown.

Then 2024 begins with dancing until 1:00 AM!

Sober Rides are also available. The Valley Youth Center will be providing rides for a donation. – Source: DECC Facebook page
