DECC to host 9th Duluth Winter Village

The Duluth Winter Village will return for its ninth year Dec. 6–7 with expanded attractions, local vendors and festive holiday spirit along the Lake Superior waterfront.

The annual celebration, held outdoors along Harbor Drive and inside the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. each day. Visitors can browse more than 80 local businesses in cozy wooden cabins, sip cocktails at the Tinsel Tavern — now triple its previous size and featuring Vikre Distillery drinks — and warm up with new Soup Flights from regional chefs.

New this year, guests can book professional holiday portraits in front of a 25-foot Christmas tree on Saturday. Other attractions include live carolers, Nutcracker ballet dancers, bonfires, freighter views, and the return of the Hollybeary Kid Store, where children can choose surprise gifts for their families.

Indoor activities feature Atomic Skating with free skate rentals and a live DJ. Younger guests can visit the Duluth Mom nursing area or the “Hug-a-Hen” pen for photo-friendly chickens wearing tiny winter hats.

The event showcases Duluth’s small-business community, with vendors such as Bailey Builds, Frost River, Lake Superior Art Glass, and The Big Lake. Food and beverages will be provided by the DECC culinary team, Hungry Hippie Tacos, Love Creamery, Scenic 61 by New Scenic Café, and others.

Organized by Duluth Love Local, the Winter Village was created to promote regional shopping and highlight the city’s creative entrepreneurs.

Howie: The city budget they don't want you to understand

Local Government Aid alone covers nearly $35 million, about one-third of the budget. It’s the difference between black ink and red. Lose even 5 percent of that aid, and Duluth’s “balanced” budget implodes by millions. That’s not financial strength — that’s dependence disguised as stability.

Build North Expo headed to the Heritage Center

“Two things we’ve heard constantly over the years are that people want to start planning and building earlier in the year, and that they want to connect with experts who can take them from start to finish on their projects. That’s what the Build North Expo will do.” -- ABA's Lindsey Whitlinger
