Incline Village, the $500 million housing, retail and public green space development now underway on the hilltop site that formerly housed Duluth Central High School, today announced that its first retail tenant is Duluth’s Best Bread.

The popular French-German bakery café, recently named one of the state’s best by Minnesota Monthly magazine, is leasing approximately 1,000 square feet of street-level space in Incline Village’s initial building, which will have 70 luxury condominiums ready for occupancy in summer 2026.

The new Duluth’s Best Bread location will include its menu of flaky croissants, crusty sourdough, craft-roasted coffee and other treats, a relaxing, Scandinavian-inspired seating area and breathtaking views of Lake Superior and the Duluth Harbor.

“Our commitment to working with local companies and resources extends to giving priority to local businesses that want to be part of a vibrant retail mix at Incline Village,” said developer Luzy Ostreicher. “Our goal is to both support and serve the community by providing them with what they want, and Duluth’s Best Bread is an outstanding example of what local residents want. We are thrilled that they are teaming up with us.”

Duluth’s Best Bread, founded in 2015 by brothers Robert and Michael Lillegard, already has locations in Duluth’s downtown Historic Arts and Theater (HART) district and in Lincoln Park, as well as in downtown Superior, Wisconsin. The Incline Village location will be the company’s fourth.

"We’re excited to keep expanding and meeting people where they’re at. This new space is super beautiful, with tons of parking, and it’s more central for a lot of people,” said Robert Lillegard. “Plus, my brother and I have always wanted to be the coffee shop at a cool new development. We think the luxury environment fits well with French pastries!"

Ostreicher said Incline Village’s initial 70 condominiums overlooking Lake Superior have drawn inquiries from around the country.

“Right now, interest in these condominiums is exceeding inventory,” he said. “We’re very pleased with how people are embracing Incline Village as the location of their next home.”
