FREDENBERG TOWNSHIP — A 33-year-old Fredenberg Township man suffered serious injuries Monday night when his vehicle left a roadway, struck a large rock and rolled over in rural St. Louis County, authorities said.
The crash occurred about 8:51 p.m. in the 4800 block of West Pioneer Road. According to the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, the driver was ejected from the vehicle during the rollover and was not wearing a seat belt. Investigators believe alcohol may have been a contributing factor.
Authorities said the vehicle apparently left the roadway, struck a large rock and overturned before coming to rest in the north ditch. The vehicle sustained extensive damage. Deputies responding to the scene found the vehicle in the middle of the roadway.
The driver, whose name was not released, was transported to St. Luke's hospital in Duluth for treatment of serious injuries. His condition was not immediately available.
The St. Louis County Sheriff's Office responded to the crash along with the Fredenberg Fire Department, Mayo Ambulance and St. Louis County Rescue Squad.
The crash remains under investigation.
