Prep Sports Notebook: Grand Rapids clips Duluth East in OT

Class 2A/No. 15 Grand Rapids defeated 2A/No. 14 Duluth East 2-1 in overtime in high school boys hockey Tuesday night at Sill Arena. Junior forward Wyatt Peterson scored for the Greyhounds (0-3). The Thunderhawks improved to 2-0 overall. Duluth East next plays host to Bemidji on Thursday night at Sill.

Tresean Sanigar scored a game-high 30 points to power host Superior past Saint Croix Central 79-68 in overtime in a nonconference high school boys basketball game Tuesday night. Brandon Aker added 17 points and sophomore sensation Calvin Anderson 14 for the Spartans (2-1).

Bemidji defeated host Hermantown 57-42 in a high school girls basketball opener for both teams Tuesday night. Aurora Decker scored a team-high 10 points for the Hawks, and teammate Mikayla Sweeney added eight.
