The 55th annual Park Point 5-Miler and 2-Mile Walk scheduled for tonight has been canceled because of hazardous air quality in Duluth and surrounding areas.

The sold-out event was scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. near the Park Point Beach House and had reached its capacity of 900 participants. The event also was scheduled to include the Park Point Seagull Chase youth races and post-race activities.

Information about a possible rescheduled date or registration refunds was not immediately available. Net proceeds from the event benefit the Young Athletes Foundation, which supports youth and recreational athletic programs through grants, scholarships and free programming.
