Hermantown SummerFest opens Wednesday with five days of community events

The Fran Hubert SummerFest Parade will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday. An APS-Mesaba customer appreciation event will be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., followed by a Bullyan RV summer barbecue and music by GB Leighton from noon to 3 p.m.

Hermantown SummerFest 2026 begins Wednesday, launching five days of community events that will include food, music, open houses, athletic competitions, a parade and fireworks.

Wednesday’s opening schedule will begin with a Backyard BBQ and an ice cream event at Reliable Insurance Agency, both from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. K&B Grilled Cheese will follow from 1 to 3 p.m.

Proctor-Hermantown Community Education will host Motor Mania from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hermantown Community Learning Center. The opening day will conclude with a meatball dinner and jam session from 4 to 7 p.m. at Grace Lutheran Church.

Thursday’s schedule will feature several open houses and family activities. The YMCA will hold an open house from 5 a.m. to 9 p.m., including a block party from 5 to 7 p.m. The city of Hermantown and the Hermantown Historical Center will host an open house from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Mary Murphy Jackson Project Home.

Other Thursday events will include sweet treats at Firefly Mental Health, Pistons ’n’ Pizza at North Pizza and Pub and cool-down treats at the National Bank of Commerce’s Hermantown branch. Free bowling will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Skyline Social and Games, while root beer floats will be served from 1 to 3 p.m. at Hermantown Square. The Bob Nordin Memorial Free Open Ice Skating event will be held from 3 to 5 p.m. at NorthStar Ford Arena.

Friday’s schedule will begin with Lunch on the Shore from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at North Shore Bank. The Natural Resources Research Institute will hold an open house from 2 to 4 p.m.

The Hermantown Hawks Blue Line Club will host a 4K walk and run beginning at 6 p.m. at Skyline Social and Games. A tent party will run from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m. at the Beacon Sports Bar, and the Hermantown Youth Baseball Home Run Derby will begin at 7 p.m. at Centricity Park. Birthday fireworks are scheduled for 10 p.m. at Fichtner Fields.

Saturday will feature one of SummerFest’s busiest schedules, beginning with a pancake breakfast from 7:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Hermantown Community Church. A bean bag and volleyball tournament will run from 9 a.m. to noon at Skyline Social and Games, while the Hermantown Historical Center will hold an open house from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Saturday afternoon activities will include karaoke and a Hawks Blue Line Club auction from 3 to 6 p.m. at the Beacon Sports Bar. An informal gathering for Hermantown High School classes from 1942 through 1989 will run from 3 to 7 p.m. at the AAD Shrine. The Beacon Sports Bar tent party will return from 6 p.m. to 1 a.m.

SummerFest will conclude Sunday with a Forever Be Sure concert from 10 to 11 a.m. at Faith Baptist Church and a Drive-by Pie event from 10 a.m. to noon at the Pillars of Hermantown. Faith Baptist will close the celebration with “Singpiration & Sundaes — An Evening of Musical Worship” from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

St. Louis County declares local emergency as wildfires spread
Here is a weather model (HRRR model) forecast of near-surface smoke trends through the rest of today into tonight. Overall note is that a cold front moving south through northern Minnesota will result in winds shifting to northwest and then northerly, which will bring the plumes of wildfire smoke into the Arrowhead and eventually down towards the Twin Ports and into northwest Wisconsin towards the very late evening/overnight hours. Smoke from the wildfires also is creating dangerous air quality conditions across the region. By Wednesday morning, air quality throughout St. Louis County was expected to reach hazardous or very unhealthy levels.
