HERMANTOWN, Minn. — Construction is scheduled to begin July 20 on a section of U.S. Highway 53 between Haines Road and Midway Road, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.

Crews will begin by resurfacing turn lanes in both directions. The work will require temporary lane and shoulder closures.

The highway’s travel lanes will receive a preventive-maintenance sealcoat. That work is expected to begin in early August and will be completed overnight to limit traffic disruptions.

Businesses and residences along the corridor may experience brief access closures as construction moves through the area. MnDOT said those closures will be coordinated in advance.

Construction is expected to continue through early September. Additional information and a video update are available on MnDOT’s Highway 53 project page.
