Esko defeated Denfeld 19-7 in a nonconference high school softball game Monday afternoon at Dick Swanson Fields in West Duluth. The Eskomos improved to 5-2 overall, and the Hunters fell to 0-2. Both teams are in action again Tuesday, with Esko hosting Rock Ridge at 1 p.m. and Denfeld facing Cloquet at 4:30 p.m.

. Maverick Midthun won the Notah Begay III Arizona Regional junior golf tournament in the 12-13 year-old division last weekend. He shot five-under in the 36-hole event, winning the second hole of a playoff, and advances to the national championship in November. See Maverick's scorecard. See tournament video.
