DULUTH — Justice North, a nonprofit law firm providing free civil legal assistance to low-income residents across northern Minnesota, is preparing for two major fundraising events, including an October gala in Moorhead and the return of its popular Law Law Palooza celebration to Duluth next spring.
The organization will host its new Falling for Justice gala Thursday, Oct. 22, at the Moorhead Armory, with doors opening at 5 p.m. The event will feature fundraising activities, including an online silent auction that is already accepting bids from supporters throughout the region.

The auction features restaurant and entertainment gift cards, specialty gift baskets, handmade items created by Justice North employees and other donated merchandise. Additional items are expected to be added before bidding closes at 7 p.m. on the evening of the gala. Participants do not need to attend the event to bid.
Justice North also is encouraging advance financial contributions through a special fundraising campaign. Donations received before the gala will be used to challenge attendees to make matching contributions during the event, potentially increasing the amount raised to support the organization's legal services.

The fundraising effort comes as Justice North continues expanding its regional operations following a Jan. 1, 2026, merger with Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota. The consolidation brought together two established nonprofit legal aid organizations under the Justice North name, creating one of Minnesota's largest geographic service areas for civil legal assistance.
The combined organization now serves 33 counties across northern Minnesota, with offices in Duluth, Virginia, Grand Rapids, Brainerd, Bemidji, Moorhead, Alexandria and Pine City. Its service territory stretches across much of northern Minnesota, including communities with limited access to private legal representation.
Justice North provides legal assistance to qualifying individuals and families confronting civil legal problems, including housing instability, domestic violence, public benefits disputes, consumer issues and other matters affecting financial security and personal safety.

Unlike criminal proceedings, where qualifying defendants generally have a constitutional right to appointed counsel, people involved in most civil cases are not guaranteed an attorney. Consequently, low-income residents frequently must navigate complicated legal proceedings without professional representation.
Justice North works to narrow that gap through legal advice, direct representation, community education and outreach programs. Its services also include mobile assistance through the Justice Bus, a traveling legal office designed to reach residents in rural communities where transportation and access to attorneys can be significant obstacles.
The organization also supports public legal kiosks that provide access to legal resources, applications and, at certain locations, private spaces for remote legal proceedings.

Meanwhile, Justice North has announced that Law Law Palooza, its fundraising gala and concert, will return to the Greysolon Ballroom in downtown Duluth on Friday, April 16, 2027.
The event combines live entertainment and fundraising to support the organization's mission of providing legal assistance to residents who otherwise might be unable to afford an attorney. Tickets are expected to go on sale later this year.
The Duluth celebration will provide another opportunity for individuals, businesses and members of the legal community to support the organization as it operates across an expanded geographic region.

For Justice North, the two fundraising events represent more than social gatherings. Contributions help sustain legal services for families confronting eviction, victims seeking protection from abuse, seniors facing financial or benefits disputes and other residents whose ability to resolve a legal problem may depend on access to affordable representation.
The organization's Duluth office is located at 230 W. Superior St., Suite 200. Residents seeking legal assistance can call 877-696-6529 or apply online.
