SIOUX FALLS, S.D. — No. 5 Minnesota Duluth outshot Augustana 35-22 but settled for a 1-1 overtime tie Saturday night at MIDCO Arena, completing a winless nonconference weekend against the Vikings.

Junior defenseman Ty Hanson scored UMD's only goal, while freshman goaltender Carl Axelsson made 21 saves as the Bulldogs moved to 2-1-1 following Friday's 4-3 overtime loss.

Augustana opened the scoring at 3:44 of the second period when Leonid Bulgakov redirected a shot past Axelsson. UMD answered at 6:38 on a goal that required a lengthy video review after the Bulldogs challenged the original ruling. Officials initially credited Hunter Anderson before awarding the goal to Hanson, assisted by Zam Plante.

Neither team scored in the third period or five-minute overtime. Augustana won the subsequent shootout 2-0, although the game officially counts as a tie.

Vikings goaltender Mathis Langevin finished with 34 saves. UMD went 0-for-2 on the power play, while Augustana was 0-for-3.

Axelsson has allowed just one goal in 125 minutes this season.

The Bulldogs, who opened the season with two victories over Long Island University, managed one point in their two-game series against Augustana. The Vikings scored 20 seconds into overtime Friday to win the opener 4-3.

UMD returns to AMSOIL Arena next weekend for a two-game nonconference series against No. 20 Minnesota, beginning Friday at 7:07 p.m.
