Bryden Giesen scored twice and added an assist as Hermantown routed Duluth Marshall 5-1 in girls soccer on Monday afternoon.
Hermantown scored two goals in the opening 16 minutes and carried a 4-0 lead into halftime. Giesen opened the scoring in the third minute, converting a pass from Harper Nelson, before Piper Raukar scored off an assist from Vienna Kolenda in the 16th.
Giesen struck again in the 43rd minute, scoring from Kaija Markovich to extend Hermantown’s lead to 3-0. The two players reversed roles two minutes later, with Markovich finishing a pass from Giesen for Hermantown’s fourth goal.
Hermantown goalkeeper Isla Radzack made four saves during the first half, including a penalty-kick stop that preserved the shutout entering halftime.
Duluth Marshall broke through in the 68th minute when Mia Pugliese scored to cut Hermantown’s lead to 4-1. The Hawks answered one minute later as Kaitlyn Glanville scored from Ryann Knight to restore the four-goal margin.
Ava DeTray played the second half in goal for Hermantown. She allowed one goal and did not record a save.
Giesen finished with two goals and an assist, while Markovich contributed a goal and an assist. Raukar and Glanville also scored for Hermantown, which received assists from Nelson, Kolenda and Knight.
