Emergency responders on Friday morning were dispatched to the area of the Pike Lake Public Access in Canosia Township for a report of a male who had gone under water. Responders learned that the male had been scuba diving with another person near the dock area and was observed going beneath the surface of the water shortly after requesting assistance to the dock.

The male was quickly removed from the water within minutes by his diving partner and a nearby witness. Lifesaving efforts began immediately but were ultimately unsuccessful, and the 31-year-old male from Alberta, Canada was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim's name is being withheld pending notification of family.

The cause of death is still under investigation and the St. Louis County Sheriff's Office does not have any further information at this time.

Emergency personnel from the Canosia Township Volunteer Fire Department, St. Louis County Rescue Squad, St. Louis County Sheriff's Office, and Mayo Ambulance all assisted at the scene.
