Duluth will spotlight jobs and training this week as Mayor Roger Reinert proclaims Wednesday Workforce Development Day in the city.

The declaration comes during Workforce Development Month, a statewide effort to highlight the programs and partnerships that connect Minnesotans to careers. Reinert will read the proclamation at a 1 p.m. media event inside the Duluth Workforce Center/CareerForce, where the city provides job counseling, training resources and hiring connections for residents.

The announcement is meant to draw attention to Duluth’s shifting labor market. Health care systems and schools remain among the region’s largest employers, while manufacturers, service industries and small businesses continue to report openings that are difficult to fill. City officials say workforce development programs have become critical to matching residents with careers that offer stability and growth.

Following the proclamation, the center will host a Hiring Now! Job Fair, giving job seekers the chance to meet recruiters directly. Employers scheduled to attend include Duluth Public Schools, Home Instead and Essentia Health, and other local and regional businesses. Organizers say many will be interviewing on the spot.

For Reinert, the event is part of a broader push to showcase Duluth’s role as a hub for workforce services in northeastern Minnesota.
