Derek Medved announces candidacy for Duluth City Council At-Large

Derek Medved, a lifelong West Duluth resident, entrepreneur and former City Councilor, announced his candidacy for Duluth City Council At-Large today.

Medved previously served on the Duluth City Council and currently serves as a commissioner on the Duluth Public Utilities Commission. He said the time has come to return to public service.

“Now is a time for choosing,” said Medved. “Duluth faces real challenges, and I believe it’s time to roll up our sleeves and get back to the basics of serving people.”

Medved’s story is one of dedication and determination. At age 19, he bought and reopened the shuttered Milk House convenience store on Commonwealth Avenue, breathing new life into a vital neighborhood hub. That one store has since grown into a chain of fifteen Korner Stores and Little Stores across the region. With a strong leadership team in place, Medved says he has both the time and capacity to fully serve Duluth residents once again.

In his campaign, Medved is prioritizing issues that impact every corner of the city: public safety, street and infrastructure improvements, affordable housing, local business support, and relief from rising property taxes. His message is rooted in listening to residents, acting on their concerns, and delivering common-sense solutions that work.

“Serving on the council was one of the greatest honors of my life,” said Medved. “Even though time has passed, my passion for public service and my love for this city remain as strong as ever. I want to be someone who gets things done and does it the right way.”
