Eau Claire forward Mack Diggins commits to Bulldogs

Diggins to play major-junior next season with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League before enrolling at UMD.

Minnesota Duluth has received a commitment from Eau Claire forward Mack Diggins, a productive right-shot forward expected to join the Bulldogs for the 2027-28 men’s hockey season.

Diggins, an 18-year-old listed at 6-foot-1 and 180 pounds, announced his commitment Thursday. He is expected to spend the 2026-27 season with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League before enrolling at UMD.

The commitment adds a regional prospect with a consistent scoring record at the Wisconsin high school and junior levels. Diggins recorded 16 goals and 31 assists for 47 points in 58 games, including the playoffs, during his first season with the Fairbanks Ice Dogs of the North American Hockey League.

Diggins finished the NAHL regular season with 14 goals and 27 assists for 41 points in 54 games. He added two goals and four assists in four playoff games.

He also was selected to play for Selects White at the 2026 NAHL Top Prospects Tournament, where he produced two goals and one assist in two games.

Before joining Fairbanks, Diggins played three seasons at Eau Claire Memorial High School. He totaled 62 goals and 68 assists for 130 points in 69 regular-season games, increasing his production during each season.

Diggins had 12 goals and 16 assists for 28 points in 22 games as a freshman and followed with 18 goals and 27 assists for 45 points in 23 games as a sophomore. He produced 32 goals and 25 assists for 57 points in 24 regular-season games during his junior season.

Including the playoffs, Diggins finished his final season at Eau Claire Memorial with 36 goals and 27 assists for 63 points in 28 games.

Diggins signed a standard player development and scholarship agreement with Owen Sound in March. Attack general manager Dale DeGray described Diggins as a strong power forward who plays intelligently, sees the ice well and provides defensive support for his teammates.

The move to Owen Sound will give Diggins a season of major-junior experience before his expected arrival in Duluth. The OHL is one of three leagues operating under the Canadian Hockey League and regularly develops players for NCAA and professional hockey.

Diggins’ production in Fairbanks demonstrated that his offensive ability carried over from Wisconsin high school hockey to a faster and more physical junior level. His 31 assists also reflected an ability to create scoring opportunities for his linemates rather than serve strictly as a goal scorer.

At UMD, Diggins projects as a versatile forward capable of playing through contact, contributing offensively and handling responsibilities away from the puck. His development at Owen Sound will help determine whether he can compete for an immediate role when he joins the Bulldogs in 2027.
