Gophers rally to clip Michigan Tech in men's hockey home opener

Minnesota opened its men’s hockey season with a 6-3 win over Michigan Tech on Friday night at 3M Arena at Mariucci.

The Gophers trailed 3-2 after two periods before erupting for four unanswered goals in the third.

Sophomore forward Brodie Ziemer led the way with two goals. Tate Pritchard, Brody Lamb, Erik Pahlsson and Beckett Hendrickson also scored.

Ziemer, Lamb, Hendrickson and Jimmy Clark each finished with two points. Luke Mittelstadt added an assist and put a team-high six shots on goal.

Goaltender Nathan Airey made 25 saves while giving up three goals.

The Huskies held a 68-52 edge in total attempts, but Minnesota outshot them 34-28 on goal. The Gophers blocked 21 shots to help tilt the game.

Michigan Tech scored twice in a 69-second span late in the second period to take the lead, but Minnesota controlled the final 20 minutes to secure the win.
