DULUTH, Minn. — Duluth police cited a 20-year-old Hermantown man after investigators identified him as one of four people allegedly involved in dumping soap into the Fountain of the Wind in Canal Park.
Travis Sundberg was issued a citation for public nuisance, police said Tuesday. Three other people believed to have been involved have not been identified.
Police responded shortly after 10 p.m. Aug. 1 to a report of people putting soap into the fountain at 400 Canal Park Drive. Officers blocked nearby roads and sidewalks and placed markings around the area to warn the public of the potential hazard.
A city plumber was called to shut down the fountain until it could be cleaned. Police estimated the cleanup cost at approximately $3,000.
The Police Department said tampering with city infrastructure can create safety hazards and place an unnecessary strain on public resources.
Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Duluth police at 218-730-5684.
