Softball – at Proctor, 4:30 p.m. The Hawks (3-1) are off to a good start to the season with wins against Denfeld (2) and Grand Rapids, and a loss to Superior. "We have had good pitching from Natialie Vitek and Lindsey Ewer and solid defense," said Hermantown coach Michelle Sweeney. "Our bats have also started to come alive. We have had good production throughout the lineup with particularly impressive starts for Baylee Edwards (.545) and Lindsey Ewer (.500). Baylee has also been spectacular in center field with an unbelievable throw to the plate against Grand Rapids. It has been really fun to watch this team compete and start to come together as a team. I think we have really good team chemistry with kids that genuinely enjoy being around each other. They are a great group of young women. We have a busy week with a big conference game against Proctor on Tuesday. Then, we have our home opener against Esko on Thursday, travel to North Branch Friday and then head to Andover on Saturday for a double header. With this busy schedule, it will be important to keep everyone healthy. I definitely think this team is a contender for a section championship."

Howie: Minnesota at the edge of authority

Minnesota’s strength, historically, has been its preference for problem-solving over posturing. That tradition is being tested now. This is not the moment for reflexive outrage or performative reassurance. It is the moment for clarity.

Howie: Minnesota has outgrown its stories

Minnesota does not need more outrage. It needs clearer accounting. It needs fewer slogans and more follow-through. It needs to revisit old assumptions with open eyes and accept that a reputation earned decades ago does not guarantee results today.
