Lake Superior College welcomed students back to campus Monday for the start of its fall semester, coinciding with the school’s 80th anniversary.

Enrollment is up about 6% from last year, with more than 3,400 students registered. The increase follows a 3% gain during the 2024-25 academic year. Several programs were full or near capacity by mid-summer, and the school surpassed last year’s total enrollment in early August.

“There’s always a special energy on the first day of classes, and this year it feels even more exciting as we kick off our 80th anniversary,” said Dr. Linda Kingston, president of Lake Superior College. “We’re so glad to welcome both new and returning students to campus. Our dedicated faculty and staff are committed to helping them thrive.”

Students come from the Twin Ports, across the Midwest and internationally. Post Secondary Enrollment Option enrollment rose by more than 90 students compared with last fall. The Lake Superior College Foundation awarded more than $250,000 in scholarships, with about 75% of applicants receiving aid.

Campus updates this semester include new manufacturing labs in the expanded T-Building, completed in April, and a relocated campus store in the main concourse for greater visibility and access.

Lake Superior College offers more than 90 programs across three Duluth sites: its main campus on Trinity Road, the Center for Advanced Aviation at the Duluth International Airport and the Emergency Response Training Center on Highway 23 in Gary/New Duluth.
