DULUTH LINCOLN PARK — One Roof Community Housing plans to move into a building it owns in the Lincoln Park Craft District by the end of the year, giving the nonprofit a permanent headquarters after more than a decade in downtown Duluth.
The building at 1819 W. Superior St. will bring One Roof’s programs and services together and provide meeting space for housing partners and community organizations. Renovations and technology upgrades are underway. One Roof hopes to begin operating there in November but expects to move in by the end of 2026, FOX 21 News reported.
Executive Director Jeff Corey said the move followed word from the city that it had other plans for the community center at Lake Avenue and Fourth Street, where One Roof has operated since its formation in 2012.
“About a year ago, we got word from the City of Duluth that they had other plans for the building that we've been in since our merger in 2012,” Corey told FOX 21 News.
He compared the decision to buy a building with a homebuyer’s desire for security, stable costs and control over the property.
One Roof has launched a capital campaign to pay for work on the building. Its minimum goal is $700,000, though it would like to raise about $1.4 million to cover the anticipated costs. About $350,000 had been raised at the time of the report.
The nonprofit offers housing counseling, affordable homeownership options, renovation loans and rental resources. Its move places those services on West Superior Street, in the heart of Lincoln Park’s commercial district.
