A Facebook post today by Duluth Amateur Hockey Association President Ryan Sandefer, announcing the organization's new full-time executive director – "We are pleased to announce that Brett Klosowski has been selected as the new Executive Director of the Duluth Amateur Hockey Association (DAHA). Brett’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for our organization, as he brings more than 25 years of experience in sports management, organizational leadership, and community engagement. His proven expertise and long-standing connection to DAHA position him perfectly to lead us into the future.

Brett has an exceptional track record in leadership roles within the hockey community. As a past President of DAHA, he gained deep insights into our organization's operations and successfully navigated challenges to strengthen its foundation. Additionally, for the last 16 seasons Brett has served as the U.S. Supervisor of Officials for the Canadian based Superior International Junior Hockey League, where he implemented improvements that elevated officiating standards and performance, enhanced fairness, and promoted safety on the ice.

Brett has been a successful on-ice official over the last 37 years, officiating at the 'AA' & 'A' minor professional, NCAA Men’s Div. I & III, and youth and high school levels. Through that time Brett has served three different terms as President of the Northeast Hockey Officials Association, which provides officials for all MH Dist. 11 youth games. In his most recent term helping NEHOA grow its membership from just over 70 active officials during the 2020-21 season to over 150 active members this past season of 2024-25.

In his extensive career, Brett has demonstrated expertise in strategic planning, fundraising, budget management, and team leadership. He has a degree in Communications from the University of Wisconsin-Superior further complements his ability to lead effectively and build relationships across the community.

Beyond his administrative accomplishments, Brett is passionate about arena management and operations. Under his leadership, DAHA will focus on the effective management of Fryberger Arena, ensuring it remains a safe and welcoming space for all members of the community. Brett’s knowledge of resource allocation, scheduling, and staff oversight will enhance the rink’s functionality and support DAHA’s long-term goals.

As Executive Director, Brett will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, and volunteers to expand opportunities for youth development, strengthen community partnerships, and ensure DAHA continues to thrive as a cornerstone of Duluth’s hockey community. We are confident his vision and dedication will drive positive change for our organization and its members.
