St. Louis County property owners can now sign up for free email alerts when a document is recorded against their property.
The county recorder’s department launched Property Watch in response to concerns about deed fraud. The county said no cases of deed fraud have been reported in St. Louis County.
Property owners must enroll to receive alerts. They can register online or get help at a county recorder’s office in Duluth, Virginia, Hibbing, Ely or Cook. The county is providing the service in partnership with West Central Indexing.
“To be clear, this service is not a fraud prevention mechanism,” said Mary Garness, the county’s director of public records and property valuation. “But it’s able to keep property owners informed and able to act quickly if something needs to be corrected.”
