St. Louis County Public Works issues reminder about placement of political signs

Table of Contents

With roughly a month to go until election day, political signs are a common sight. However, state law limits where signs can be posted to ensure safety on roadways. Political signs - or any advertisements - are not allowed on highway right-of-ways (roadside shoulders), ditches, or sight corners at intersections that may obstruct or interfere with a driver's view of approaching, merging, or intersecting traffic.

Signs also cannot be posted on public utility poles or trees, and cannot be placed on private property without the owner's consent.

To ensure safety for all travelers, St. Louis County Public Works staff will remove any signs that are illegally placed. Anyone wanting to retrieve a sign that's been removed should contact the St. Louis County Public Works maintenance garage that serves their area. Contact information can be found at stlouiscountymn.gov/publicworks.
