DULUTH – St. Louis County Public Works will present recommendations for improving safety and traffic flow along a two-mile stretch of Midway Road during a public meeting Tuesday, Oct. 6. The meeting begins at 5:30 p.m. at the Country Inn and Suites, 4257 Haines Road, and will be livestreamed.
The corridor study covers Midway Road between Highway 194 in Hermantown and North Pike Lake Road in Canosia Township, along with a short connecting segment of Martin Road. Safety concerns include closely spaced access points, additional intersections with frontage roads, an aging traffic signal and a lack of accommodations for pedestrians and bicyclists along a route heavily traveled by large vehicles.
County engineers began gathering public input in June 2025 and used those comments to develop potential designs addressing driving lane configurations, intersections, on-street parking, bicycle facilities and pedestrian crossings. Those designs were presented last fall, and public feedback helped shape the final recommendations.
