Story North Productions' short branded documentary The Unconventional Chef earned a People’s Telly Silver Award for Branded Content in the record-breaking 46th Annual Telly Awards.

The New York City-based Telly Awards honors excellence in video and television across all screens and is judged by leaders from video platforms, television, streaming networks and production companies. This year’s winners include Pixar Animation Studios, Hearst Media, ESPN, LinkedIn, NATO, MTV Entertainment Studios, NASA, the LA Clippers (NBA), Sawhorse Productions, Telemundo and more.

The Unconventional Chef follows the culinary journey of Jerry Carpenter, the executive chef at the Duluth Entertainment Convention Center, and his mission to elevate the food offerings at the event venue. The film was viewed by more than 172,000 people on the DECC Facebook page.

“To really engage potential customers, you need to win hearts and minds,” said Kevin Jacobsen, Story North’s co-founder and creative director. “The DECC team knew highlighting their space and views alone wasn’t enough. We were beyond excited when they approached us to tell the story about Jerry. His passion for not only food but customer experience is palpable.”

"It's great to see the Story North team recognized for what they packed into this short piece,” said Dan Hartman, DECC executive director. "They managed to bring to life what Chef Jerry and his crew do every day to feed our guests so well."

Content recognized in General-Branded category is created as a way to promote, and is funded by, a particular brand. All work entered into this category was shortlisted by judges and ultimately be chosen as a Gold, Silver or Bronze winner by the voting online public.

The Unconventional Chef also earned a Silver Telly in the General-Food and Beverage category and a Bronze Telly in the Specialty Craft-Directing Category.

"Story North Productions’ approach goes beyond simply documenting events," said Jacobsen. "We strive to create stories that connect deeply with audiences and motivate positive change. We leverage our years of experience in broadcast news and communications to help each client showcase their unique story with unparalleled creativity and impact."

The Telly Awards is the premier award honoring video and television across all screens. Established in 1979, The Telly Awards receives over 12,000 entries from all 50 states and five continents. Entrants are judged by The Telly Awards Judging Council — an industry body of over 200 leading experts including advertising agencies, production companies, and major television networks, reflective of the multi-screen industry The Telly Awards celebrates.

Howie: The verdict on Reinert will be about direction, not personality

The question is no longer simply whether Roger Reinert deserves another term. The question is whether Duluth believes it is on the path it wants — and if not, who has the discipline, clarity and courage to alter it. November 2027 will deliver the verdict. The work of deciding it begins now.
