St. Louis County to host ribbon cutting for new geo-thermal cell at landfill

Construction of the new geo-thermal cell at the St. Louis County landfill is complete and approved for use.

To celebrate this first-of-a-kind project in the state, St. Louis County will host a news conference at the landfill to discuss how this technology will work to capture naturally occurring heat that is produced as garbage decomposes, and next steps in the project.

The news conference will be Tuesday, November 12, at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Louis County Regional Landfill in Virginia, located at 5341 Regional Landfill Road.

The St. Louis County landfill serves approximately 92,000 residents over more than 6,300 square miles – all of the county with the exception of Duluth and surrounding communities that are within the boundaries of the Western Lake Superior Sanitary District.
