"Our team is full of elite student-athletes who are used to excelling and competing no matter who is on the other side of the court." -- Hermantown girls tennis coach Jessica Worden

Hermantown's varsity girls tennis team will debut a bevy of elite players who were waiting in the wings in top junior varsity spots last year. The graduating seniors from last year's team totalled 11, and with that included the loss of the Nos. 1, 2 and 3 singles and 1 and 2 doubles players.

"However, the first week of practice has been phenomenal," Hawks coach Jessica Worden said earlier this week. "The returning players worked incredibly hard over the summer and their dedication is already showing in practice. Another bright spot is that we are incredibly young with talented athletic athletes. We have just over 30 athletes out for the team and over half of that are new players. The interest in tennis just continues to grow."

Hermantown will open its 2023 season Friday at 11:30 a.m. at home against nonconference Simley.

"Hannah Graves, Morgan LeValley and Kalea Homich, our senior captains, are looking to take the lead for the team," Worden said. "I am thrilled to see how far they will go this year. As for our Lake Superior Conference outlook, I am hoping to finish near or at the top. Our team is full of elite student-athletes who are used to excelling and competing no matter who is on the other side of the court."
