William Anthony Oswald passed away on March 6, 2025 at St. Luke’s Hospital. He was born in Duluth on June 27, 1954, the youngest of 7 to John and Blanche (Herstad) Oswald.

A hockey enthusiast from a young age, he played at Lower Chester, Cathedral, and St. Scholastica. He also coached youth hockey for many years and was known as “The Voice of the UMD Bulldogs” as the public address announcer for 21 years. William was on the Spirit of Duluth Committee for 45 years.

He was also an avid golfer, spending summers growing up at Northland Country Club and caddying for Leo Spooner. He met his wife Martha Gualtieri at St. Scholastica and they were married 47 years. William worked at Consolidated Title and Abstract Company for over 40 years. He served on the board of the Center for Alcohol and Drug Treatment for several years. His golf game eventually took a back seat to fishing and hunting, and he loved spending time at Round Lake Duck Camp with family and friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, John and Blanche Oswald; brother-in-law, Larry Kuberra; and nephew, John Kuberra. He is survived by his wife, Martha Oswald; daughter, Megan (Joe) Pike of Hermantown; son, Phillip (Bailey) Oswald of Grand Forks, ND; grandchildren, Gavin and Hazel Pike; sister, Joan Kuberra; brother, John (Pat) Oswald; sister, Betty (Ken) Lawson; sister, Sue (Bob) Anderson; brother, Jim (Lois) Oswald; and sister, Lois (Tom) Hon; and many nieces and nephews. Flowers are welcome or in lieu of flowers contributions can be made to St. Scholastica Hockey Program.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m. on March 27 at Kenwood Lutheran Church, 2720 Myers Avenue with Visitation beginning at 10 a.m. Luncheon to follow at Northland Country Club.
