Howie's Saturday Prep Sports Notebook

"It is not just the guys who are winning their events, but the support guys that work hard for the 3rd, 4th and 5th places that get us our points and make this team very fun to coach.” -- Hermantown boys track coach Tyler Homstad

Hermantown track phenom Martin Sleen stole the show at the eight-team North Branch Invitational on Thursday afternoon.

“Martin has been showing his athleticism in any event that we put him in, winning the 100m, long jump, and anchoring both the winning 4x100 and 4x200 relays,” said Hawks coach Tyler Homstad.

Hermantown strongmen Evan Senst and Aidan Adamski finished 1-2 in both the shot and discus.

Tanner Homstad won the high jump, finished second in the long jump, and had strong starts in both the 4x100 and 4x200 winning teams. And Zach Wunner won the 110M hurdles and placed third in the 300 hurdles.

"It is not just the guys who are winning their events, but the support guys that work hard for the 3rd, 4th and 5th places that get us our points and make this team very fun to coach,” said Tyler Homstad. “I can't wait to see what we can do on a warm and sunny day.”

Hermantown will participate in meets in Grand Rapids on Tuesday and in Esko on Thursday.

Howie: The verdict on Reinert will be about direction, not personality

The question is no longer simply whether Roger Reinert deserves another term. The question is whether Duluth believes it is on the path it wants — and if not, who has the discipline, clarity and courage to alter it. November 2027 will deliver the verdict. The work of deciding it begins now.
