St. Louis County hires Shane Peterson as new Property Management Director

“Shane was selected from an impressive pool of finalists based on his extensive operations management, capital planning and leadership experiences." -- St. Louis County Administrator Kevin Gray

By Dana Kazel

St. Louis County has hired Shane Peterson to lead its Property Management Division. In this role, he will manage a team of more than 70 staff responsible for maintaining and repairing county buildings, facilities and grounds throughout the county.

This includes three Courthouses in Duluth, Virginia and Hibbing; Government Services Centers in Duluth, Ely, Hibbing and Virginia; specialized buildings such as the Jail, Emergency Operations Center and Public Safety Building; the historic St. Louis County Depot, and others.

Peterson served as Facilities Management Campus Operations Manager for the University of Minnesota Duluth for more than 10 years. He holds an undergraduate degree in horticulture and a master's degree in landscape architecture.

“Shane was selected from an impressive pool of finalists based on his extensive operations management, capital planning and leadership experiences," said County Administrator Kevin Gray. "His role at UMD involved similar unique challenges with responsibilities for a wide range of buildings and facilities, and we are excited to have his knowledge and perspectives as part of the County team.”

Peterson will be responsible for the Property Management's annual operating budget, which is more than $11 million in 2025. He replaces Jerry Hall, who retired last fall.
