Quote Me, Howie: On the Gophers snagging Niko Medved as their new men's basketball coach

Justin Wieck – "This is a great hire for the Gophers. There are the obvious ties to Minnesota for him, but what Gopher fans should be most excited about is his track record as a head coach. He has proven time and time again that he is one of the best coaches in the country. His teams play the right way, compete at a high level, and Niko constantly makes adjustments to put his team in the best position to win. He has won at every stop, and will step right into the Big 10 to make the Gophers competitive. An awesome fit and a great hire by Minnesota."

Rhett McDonald – "I'm incredibly excited about the hire of Niko Medved as the new head coach of Gophers basketball. His track record at Colorado State speaks for itself — his teams play an efficient, high-tempo offensive style, and he's proven he can recruit and develop talent at a high level. Medved has brought in impact players wherever he's been, and it will be exciting to see how he builds the Gophers into a contender in the Big Ten. At the end of the day, though, key questions remain. Will there be increased NIL opportunities to attract top-tier recruits? And is there a plan for facility upgrades to modernize the basketball experience for players and fans? Those answers will be crucial in determining how high this program can rise."

Fred Friedman – "Excellent move. Best basketball hire in years. Now, let’s get these mega Minnesota corporations to pony up for our flagship university. I assure you their tax lawyers can find a way."
