McMahon to speak at St. Scholastica’s Alworth Peace and Justice Lecture

The College of St. Scholastica will host New York Times bestselling author Sharon McMahon on Thursday, as part of the Alworth Center for the Study of Peace and Justice lecture series.

McMahon, author of “The Small and the Mighty: Twelve Unsung Americans Who Changed the Course of History, from the Founding to the Civil Rights Movement,” will speak from 7:30 to 9 p.m. in Mitchell Auditorium on the college’s main campus. The event, known as the annual Martha Alworth Lecture, is free and open to the public.

A former high school government and law teacher, McMahon is widely known for her popular Instagram account “Sharon Says So” and her podcast “Here’s Where It Gets Interesting.” Her book, which explores overlooked figures who shaped U.S. history, is also St. Scholastica’s Common Read selection for the academic year. Students, faculty and staff have been reading and discussing it throughout the year.

Fitger’s Bookstore will sell copies of “The Small and the Mighty” at the event, and McMahon will sign books following her lecture.

The lecture is co-sponsored by St. Scholastica’s Dignitas Program.
