Next Week in Duluth East Sports: Greyhounds Stay Busy with Summer Training

DULUTH — Duluth East athletes will continue building toward the 2026-27 school year with another active week of summer workouts, highlighted by strength training, girls basketball practices, football activities and performance testing.

The week begins Monday with the Greyhounds' popular Hound Power conditioning program from 7-8 a.m. in the East High School gym before girls basketball takes the floor from 8-10 a.m. at Ordean East Middle School. Football players and other fall athletes will also participate in summer practice sessions at Ordean Stadium from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. and again from 4:30-7:30 p.m. An afternoon Hound Power session is scheduled from 3:45-5 p.m., although the East High School weight room will remain closed throughout the day because of maintenance.

Tuesday's schedule again features morning Hound Power from 7-8 a.m. and girls basketball from 8-10 a.m. Football players will undergo GMAX testing on the Ordean Stadium turf from 8-9:30 a.m. before returning for summer practice from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. The Duluth East Daredevils will also hold practice from 11:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. in Room 1043, while Hound Power concludes the day with an afternoon session from 3:45-5 p.m. The weight room remains unavailable because of scheduled maintenance.

Wednesday's activities include girls basketball from 8-10 a.m. and a football summer practice session from 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at Ordean Stadium. Building maintenance continues throughout the day, limiting access to portions of the athletic facilities.

The week's scheduled activities conclude Thursday with girls basketball practicing from 8-10 a.m. at Ordean East Middle School, while football players participate in an extended summer practice session from 8 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at Ordean Stadium. Building maintenance will again restrict access to designated athletic areas.

The Greyhounds' summer schedule continues to emphasize strength and conditioning, skill development and team instruction as coaches prepare athletes for the upcoming fall sports season. Football's GMAX testing also provides coaches and athletic trainers with baseline data used to help monitor athlete safety throughout the year.
