(HH) — Northern News Now is expanding its sports broadcasting lineup by adding North Star Sports and Entertainment programming to MY9 Sports, beginning July 1, the station announced Friday.
The new partnership will provide viewers across northeastern Minnesota and northwestern Wisconsin with expanded regional sports and entertainment content, as MY9 Sports continues to position itself as a go-to destination for local and statewide athletic coverage.
As part of the update, Heroes & Icons (H&I) programming—previously carried on MY9—will relocate to a new home on channel 3.7, allowing fans of classic television and action series to continue enjoying the network uninterrupted.
North Star Sports and Entertainment, based in Minnesota, produces a range of original sports programming, including high school and amateur athletics, talk shows, and special event coverage. Its partnership with Northern News Now brings a steady stream of locally driven sports content to MY9’s prime-time and weekend lineups.
“Northern News Now is committed to enhancing the viewing experience for our audience,” said Todd Wentworth, General Manager/Vice President at Northern News Now. “By bringing North Star Sports and Entertainment into the MY9 Sports lineup, we’re expanding our reach and giving viewers more of what they love - quality, entertaining sports programming.”
MY9 Sports, available over the air and through cable and streaming platforms, has seen a steady rise in viewership in recent years by leaning into local sports coverage, including hockey, football, and basketball across the region. The station is a MyNetworkTV affiliate and part of the broader Northern News Now brand, which also includes CBS affiliate CBS 3 (KDLH) and NBC affiliate KBJR 6.
The expanded coverage is also part of a broader initiative by parent company Gray Television, which owns and operates stations throughout Minnesota. In addition to Duluth, Gray’s Minnesota properties include KTTC in Rochester and KEYC in Mankato, which will join forces with Northern News Now and North Star Sports to provide more unified and far-reaching regional sports content across the state.
Wentworth said the new collaboration is designed to reflect the passions of sports fans across Minnesota while continuing to deliver content that is “positive, engaging, and locally relevant.”
