Hermantown earned a pair of doubles victories but couldn’t overcome Hibbing’s sweep in singles in a 5-2 road loss in girls tennis Monday.

The Hawks found their success at the bottom of the lineup, where Chloe Gustafson and Jillian Ritsche delivered a 6-3, 6-1 win over Lilyana Sparks and Lauren Ringhofer at No. 2 doubles. At No. 3 doubles, Hermantown’s Lillian Clemons and Merrilee Manion battled through a tiebreaker in the second set to edge Hanley Ortiz and Vivian Claughety 6-4, 7-6 (4).

Hermantown dropped all four singles matches despite several competitive efforts. Evie Sullivan fell 6-0, 6-3 to Hibbing standout Kenedi Koland at No. 1 singles, while Nevie Homich lost 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2. McKenna Dorn pushed Olivia Theien to a first-set tiebreak before falling 7-6 (5), 6-3 at No. 3 singles, and Rylie Giesen came up short 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4.

Hibbing also claimed No. 1 doubles, where Kori McCormick and Bryjah Schnipkoweit downed Rylee Kalkbrenner and Cadence Godmare 7-5, 6-2.
