Hermantown High Sports Calendar, Game Notes

Tuesday

Nordic Ski – at Grand Rapids (MI), 11 a.m.

Girls Hockey – at Cloquet-Esko-Carlton, 7 p.m. Game Notes: The Mirage (6-5-1) defeated South St. Paul 3-1 on Saturday afternoon at Doug Woog Arena, with forwards Jane Eckstrom and Izy Fairchild each collecting a goal and an assist. Cloquet is 5-6-0.

Girls Basketball – at Cloquet, 7:15 p.m. Game Notes: The Hawks (1-6) lost to visiting Grand Rapids 78-46 last Friday.  

Boys Basketball – at Hibbing, 7:15 p.m. Game Notes: The Hawks (2-4) have won two of their last three games, including an impressive 97-67 victory at nonconference Princeton last Tuesday. Senior power forward Abe Soumis exploded for 41 points against the Tigers, and teammates Peyton Menzel added 20 points and Brayden Lundeen 15.

Boys Hockey – at Duluth Denfeld, 7:30 p.m. Game Notes: Hermantown defeated 2023 Minnesota Class 1A high school boys hockey champion Mahtomedi 5-1 last Saturday afternoon at historic Hermantown Arena. Five different players scored goals for the 1A/No. 1-ranked Hawks, who rallied from a 1-0 deficit after one period with four unanswered goals in the second period.

Junior forward River Freeman had a goal and two assists and senior goaltender Dane Callaway had 29 saves for Hermantown (4-0-1). Duluth Denfeld (5-3-0) defeated Superior 5-1 last Thursday night at Wessman Arena.

Thursday

Girls Hockey – at Simley, TBA. Game Notes: Simley is 3-4-1 overall.  

Boys Basketball – host North Branch, 6 p.m. Game Notes: North Branch (4-1) hosts Becker on Tuesday night, hoping to rebound from an 80-68 loss at Big Lake last Thursday night.

Friday

Alpine Skiing – at Rock Ridge, TBA

Wrestling – at Rock Ridge, 9 a.m.

Girls Basketball – host Mesabi East, 6:30 p.m. Game Notes: Mesabi East (4-1) has won four straight.

Boys Hockey – host Rosemount, 7 p.m. Game Notes: Rosemount is 7-1-0 and defeated Class 2A power Chanhassen 2-1 earlier this season.
