I-35 southbound ramp at Lake Avenue in Duluth closure extended

The Minnesota Department of Transportation has announced an extension of the closure for the I-35 southbound exit 256B at Lake Avenue/5th Avenue West until Tuesday, August 6, due to additional concrete work required before the exit can reopen.

The following I-35 ramps will remain closed until September 7:

  • Northbound off-ramp to Lake Avenue bridge
  • Southbound off-ramp to Lake Avenue bridge
  • Southbound on-ramp from Lake Avenue bridge
  • Northbound on-ramp from Lake Avenue bridge
  • Northbound on-ramp from Michigan Street

These ramps will reopen as soon as the work is completed, with detour signs currently in place. Additionally, lane closures will persist on I-35 northbound and southbound from 5th Avenue West to 13th Avenue East, at the northern ends of the tunnels.

This is part of a two-year initiative focusing on concrete pavement repairs and bridge work within the Duluth segment of I-35.
