Lake Superior College to hold ribbon cutting for T-Building expansion

Lake Superior College will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony on Thursday at 1 p.m. on its main campus to officially open the nearly $13 million expansion of its T-Building. The ceremony will take place in the new CNC Tool area of the expansion.

The expanded T-Building will house the school’s integrated manufacturing programs, which include Welding, Computer-Aided Design (CAD), and Machine Tool. Those programs were formerly housed in downtown Duluth since 2014, but LSC closed that campus in July due to the owner of that space, the Human Development Center, needing more space to grow operations. Kraus-Anderson Construction began work on the 8,310-square-foot addition to the T Building in November of 2023.

With integrated manufacturing back on the main campus, students in those programs will be more connected to the rest of the campus with easy access to advisers, counselors, and many student amenities like the IceHawks Café and the Wellness Center. The T Building already accommodates LSC's automotive, carpentry, electrical and electronics programs.

“This expansion represents our commitment to hands-on, high-quality education in fields that are vital to our regional economy,” said Dr. Patricia Rogers, president of Lake Superior College. “By bringing our integrated manufacturing programs back to our main campus, we’re strengthening opportunities for collaboration and ensuring our students are even more connected to the support and resources they need to succeed.”

Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert and Rogers will make brief comments during the ribbon cutting. Those who attend should park in Lot 3 outside of the T-Building.
