Thomas Johnson, age 76, a proud United States Marine Corps veteran and devoted family man, passed away on December 10th surrounded by loved ones. Born in Aitkin, MN, he answered the call to serve his country at the age of 19, serving honorably in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. His courage, discipline, and loyalty to his community remained hallmarks of his character throughout his life.

After returning home, Tom built a career in Duluth marked by hard work, integrity, and leadership. After graduating from the University of Minnesota Duluth, he worked in public accounting, specializing in tax compliance. His stellar work ethic and reputation eventually culminated in Tom becoming President of Zenith Dredge and later Superior Wood Systems, where he was admired for his steady guidance, and genuine care for the people he worked with. Colleagues remember him as a mentor, a problem‐solver, and a man who led by example. Tom was actively involved in Lakeview Covenant church and the Duluth/Superior community. His love for coaching youth soccer and being involved in the scouting programs were just a few of the ways he constantly prioritized his kids and investing in the future generations.

On September 17, 1971, he married the love of his life, Arlene Jarvis. Together they shared 54 years of marriage grounded in partnership, laughter, and unwavering devotion. Their life was enriched by the joy of raising four children, Bryan (Karin), Benjamin (Meghan), Brandon (Natalie) and Elizabeth, who were his greatest pride. He cherished time spent with his expanding family, including his seven grandchildren, Weston, Griffin, Evelyn, Grady, Maclain, Brooks, Lillian, and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved.

Tom’s legacy lives on in the values he instilled in his family, the friendships he nurtured, and the countless lives he touched.

He is survived by his wife, Arlene; his brother, Leroy; and sister, Candice. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Edna Johnson; his brothers, Dennis and Duwayne; and his sister, Diane.

The family appreciates the wonderful care Tom received the last few years from the staff at Cottagewood Senior Communities in Rochester, MN; The Pillars in Hermantown, MN; and from St. Croix Hospice.

A celebration of his life will be held on Monday, December 15th at Lakeview Covenant Church in Duluth, MN, with visitation at 10:00 a.m., funeral at 11:00 a.m. and interment to follow at the VA Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to Lakeview Covenant Church (lakeviewcovenant.org) or Semper Fi & America’s Fund (thefund.org) in his honor.

May he rest in eternal peace, having served his family, his community, and his country with distinction.
