Republish It! Reinert on Downtown Duluth safety

We also have to acknowledge that we have accepted a new 'norm' over the past few years. And that must change. We can’t just walk on by. See something and if you can do so safely do something. Otherwise, if you see something - say something.

Duluth Mayor Roger Reinert, in a Facebook post, wrote about a Downtown Duluth public safety meeting this week at Greysolon by Black Woods – "This morning, I participated in a meeting hosted by Downtown Duluth. Chief Ceynowa, Attorney Fralich, and I all discussed public safety. Actions we have already taken and steps that are in the works.

This is a topic high on my administration’s priority list, so it was great to get together with key leaders from the Downtown Duluth team. Beginning in June we will return to monthly meetings for regular opportunities to directly share concerns, get updates, and collectively hold ourselves accountable for progress. We will facilitate a space where ALL downtown stakeholders can share challenges, get regular updates from law enforcement and service providers, and also be an active part of the solution.

We also have to acknowledge that we have accepted a new 'norm' over the past few years. And that must change. We can’t just walk on by. See something and if you can do so safely do something. Otherwise, if you see something - say something. Our public safety and outreach teams can’t do anything if they don’t know about it. We are actively pursuing an engagement model - it may take multiple attempts, but our folks are committed to getting people the help and resources they need.
Downtown is the heart of our city. We all want to see it safe, clean, vibrant and thriving. Let's all work together to get there!"
